How To Tell A Story Where You Are the Protagonist
In this class, you’ll come with a personal story that you’ve always wanted to make but you don’t know how to shape it. Together, with creator and host of Radiotopia’s Millennial, Audible’s Now or Never, and LAist Studios Snooze and WILD, Megan Tan is going to teach you how to take your personal story, and shape it into a piece you can share with the world. By the end of the class, you’ll have an outline and a plan that will help you get out of your head and your own way and launch your idea.

How do you see a story in your own story? How do you see yourself as the protagonist of your own life and make it into an audio memoir you can share?
It’s hard to tell deeply personal stories about yourself. This class will help you get out of your own head and out of your own way. It will help you take a personal event or story and craft it into something that you can create.
It’s hard to tell deeply personal stories about yourself. This class will help you get out of your own head and out of your own way. It will help you take a personal event or story and craft it into something that you can create.
This class will be all about pre-planning. We’ll talk about character development, we’ll create an outline, we’ll make a plan for your personal story so you know what tape you’re gathering, what narration you’re writing an why.
Together, I will walk you through how I crafted and documented almost 50 episodes of Millennial, how I pitched an Audible series about me helping my mom find love in her 70s, and how I pitched and created a story about my relationship to my father to This American Life.
In this class, you will come in with an idea and you will leave with an outline, a reporting plan, and a pitch.
Requirements
Students should come with a biographical or autobiographical story idea that you will workshop over the course of the class.
Key Takeaways
People will come into the class with an idea of a personal story they want to tell and they will leave the class with an outline, a plan of what tape to gather and why, what ideas they want to explore/express, and how to best pitch their story to publications/outlets.
Who is this class for?
This class is for anyone (beginner, intermediate, or advanced learners) who have had a hard time reporting on themselves from a personal point of view.
