Audio Diaries sound like an easy podcast. After all, you don’t have to book a guest, be in a studio, or write an interview script…it's just a person recording their own story, right? How wrong can you be?

Jo Erickson is an award-winning audio and documentary producer who has produced audio diaries for the BBC, MPR's Counter Stories, and produced Colorado Public Radio's Systemic, a four part documentary on police reform from inside and outside the system.

In this five week class, Jo Erickson will show you how to choose and tell stories through audio diaries. The class will explore the construction of narratives and stories through sound, interviewing, creating scenes, and production.
Students should bring along two potential ideas for an audio story that you can share with the rest of the class. Participants will be expected to work on their podcast idea communally as part of the workshop.

Note: the first and last class meetings, on May 5 and June 2 will be 90 minutes long. The other meetings will be only one hour.
